My Position on Energy & Environment
Combatting the Climate Crisis
Rep. Spanberger believes that climate change is a direct threat to the safety and strength of nearly all aspects of our society — our economy, our environment, and our national security.
To help combat and lessen the impacts of climate change, Rep. Spanberger has a record in Congress of working to lower greenhouse gas emissions in a responsible way, increase energy efficiency, protect Virginia’s coastline from offshore drilling, and safeguard Virginia’s natural resources. She also supports preserving protections for Virginia’s public lands that maintain opportunities for hunting and fishing that have been around for generations.
Supporting Good-Paying Virginia Clean Energy Jobs
Rep. Spanberger supports a transition from fossil fuel dependence to clean energy sources. She knows that long-term, sustainable American energy independence will not only benefit our environment, but will also create job security for thousands of Virginians, reduce energy costs for Virginia consumers, and lessen our dependence on foreign actors and adversaries whose values may radically conflict with those of the United States.
Rep. Spanberger has a record of supporting legislation in Congress that creates commonsense incentives for increased deployment of clean energy sources, such as wind and solar energies, as well as electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage.
