Spanberger Statement on Bipartisan U.S. House Vote Condemning Chinese Communist Party’s Surveillance Balloon
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement after the U.S. House voted unanimously to condemn the Chinese Communist Party’s use of a high-altitude surveillance balloon over the United States.
“As a member of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, I’m focused on the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression and growing threats to the American people — as is our intelligence community. Today’s vote comes after the President made the order to shoot down the surveillance balloon, the U.S. Navy recovered its remains, U.S. intelligence experts linked the device to a vast surveillance program run by the CCP, and as the FBI Laboratory at Quantico — in the Virginia district I represent — continues to examine the balloon and further reveal its intelligence gathering capabilities. The whole of our federal government is working on countering an emboldened Chinese government.
“Our national security should never be a partisan issue. Now that we are clearly united in condemnation, I hope we can be similarly united in finding answers to our questions in good faith.”
