One Year Later: Spanberger Remembers “Horrific Massacre” on October 7, Joins Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Hamas Terrorists
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement one year after the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks by Hamas against civilians in Israel.
“In the early morning hours of October 7, 2023, Hamas executed a horrific massacre in southern Israel. These terrorists murdered, raped, and took hostage parents, grandparents, and children in their kibbutzim, their cars, and their homes. They also captured and killed young Israelis attending a music festival meant to celebrate peace.
“I represent many Virginians whose loved ones have experienced the horrors of this war — the brutality of the October 7 attack, the upheaval of displacement, and the suffering of civilians, especially children. One year later, we remember those who were murdered or taken that day, and we mourn the lives and families that were forever changed. As war and suffering continue in the Middle East — in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon, the United States must remain committed to returning every hostage home, protecting civilians, ushering in an end to the hostilities, and ultimately achieving stability in the region.
“As a former CIA case officer and current Member of the House Intelligence Committee, I know that our nation’s continued leadership and involvement are central to achieving these goals.”

Spanberger also joined U.S. Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), Young Kim (R-CA-40), Lois Frankel (D-FL-22), Joe Wilson (R-SC-02), and 125 of their colleagues to introduce a bipartisan resolution condemning the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel and calling on Hamas to release all remaining hostages.
