Since the Start of 2019, the Congresswoman’s Office Has Returned More Than $38 Million in Backlogged IRS Refunds, Social Security Checks, VA Benefits, & More

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger announced today that her office has now returned more than $38 million in federal casework funds to residents of Virginia’s Seventh District.

Casework dollars are secured and returned by fighting for fair treatment for those having issues with a federal agency, program, or benefit. Spanberger’s office assists Virginians with many casework concerns — including backlogged Social Security checks, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, Medicare benefits, and delayed Internal Revenue Service (IRS) refunds.

Since taking office on January 3, 2019, Spanberger’s office has closed more than 9,929 cases for Virginians and returned a total of $38,078,584.

“Virginia families and seniors should be able to rely on their tax refunds, VA benefits, Social Security checks, and Medicare payments. My office is committed to ensuring that Virginians receive the care and benefits they are owed,” said Spanberger. “I encourage any resident of the Seventh District who is experiencing an issue with a federal agency, program, or benefit to please contact our office. My dedicated casework team and I will do our best to help — whether you need help navigating the Social Security Administration, VA, OPM, or IRS.”

Below are recent success stories submitted by Seventh District residents who worked with Spanberger’s office:

“I believe that your office involvement got my case moving along faster than before. I was able to get answers on questions that I was not able to get via emails or phone calls. Thank you for getting my case to move quickly. I appreciate that they did not give up. I appreciate that they followed up and followed through on all my requests. It was quick, and Marc was very courteous and professional. Thank you. He cares about helping people.” — Kebba, Prince William

“I tried for five months to get my son’s back Social Security payments. Over 20 phone calls and numerous visits to Social Security — and nothing. Rep. Spanberger made one call, sent in my documents, and within 3 days I received all back pay. Amazing!” — Russell, Prince William

“I was so happy with the speed Rep. Spanberger’s staff worked and got a solution for me.” — Luis, Prince William

“I unsuccessfully tried to resolve the situation on my own for more than six weeks. After contacting your office, my problem was solved in two days time! I was particularly impressed with the immediacy of your response to my initial email — literally in 15 minutes. After I sent additional information, it was obvious that you quickly contacted the agency (VA) involved in my case. I so appreciated this!”— Margaret, Stafford
