Henrico Citizen: Henrico pastor delivers U.S. House opening prayer

HENRICO CITIZEN

A Henrico pastor delivered the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives Feb. 12.

The Reverend Dr. Lance D. Watson (pictured, at podium), pastor of St. Paul’s Baptist Church on Creighton Road in Henrico, was invited by U.S. Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger to give remarks and serve as the guest chaplain over House floor proceedings that day. Watson’s prayer marked the beginning of the day’s legislative business.

Watson has served as the senior pastor of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church for more than 30 years and leads a congregation of more than 12,000 people.

Watson’s prayer included an appeal for blessings of unity, civility and wisdom. Following the prayer, Spanberger recognized him as that week’s “Central Virginian of the Week,” the third such person honored by Spanberger with the designation. She also acknowledged his accomplishments as a spiritual and community leader and support for youth education programs.
