Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7th) is urging Congress to support Virginia health care providers during an ongoing flu and RSV surge.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Virginia ranks among the top 10 states with the highest level of hospital visits for flu and other flu-like illnesses.

Spanberger wants Congress to prioritize support for physicians and other health care providers in the end-of-the-year government funding package. If new support isn’t included, providers will receive a more than eight percent cut to their Medicare reimbursements.

“Frankly, if Congress doesn’t take action to stop these cuts, we could potentially see providers being impacted by unstable financial circumstances and that could threaten access to care,” she said.

The Virginia Department of Health reports that Virginia passed last year’s peak a full two months before the normal flu season.
