Blackstone Courier-Record: Rep. Spanberger secures $923,937 for aerial device

BLACKSTONE COURIER-RECORD

The U.S. House of Representatives last week voted to pass U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger’s legislation that would provide $923,937 for the purchase of an aerial ladder fire truck for Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department. The legislation now heads to the U. S. Senate.

A new truck has been estimated at $1.67 million, and Nottoway County earlier this year pledged $200,000 if Rep. Spanberger was able to secure a federal appropriation.

The new truck would serve all of Nottoway County. No fire department in the county has had a ladder truck since Blackstone several months ago surplused its 1989 model. During an April fire at Wilkerson Tire in Crewe, a lad der truck was called-in from Farmville.
