Newly sworn in Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger says she has sent a letter requesting that her salary is withheld until the government shutdown is over.

In her letter she says, “As a former federal employee, I know how difficult shutdowns are for the public servants who work through them unpaid, for those who are furloughed and anxious to get back to work, and for those who are responsible for managing the federal government’s return to proper function after a wasteful shutdown.”

Rep. Spanberger was sworn in today in front of her family. She is part of the newly elected Democratic majority in the House.
