This Week’s Event Will Focus on Many Issues Facing the Seventh District’s Families, Seniors, & Economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, September 18, U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger will host an open, public telephone town hall focused on a range of issues facing Virginia’s families, seniors, and economy. The virtual event will also be livestreamed via video on Spanberger’s congressional website and Facebook page.

Spanberger will take questions directly from Virginians across Virginia’s Seventh District, gather their feedback, and provide answers. Additionally, she will discuss the effort she is leading to force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on her bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act to eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), two provisions which slash retirement benefits for tens of thousands of Virginia retirees. Spanberger will also discuss her work to strengthen Virginia’s workforce and economy, her efforts to expand broadband internet connectivity in Virginia’s Seventh District, and the need for Congress to prevent a dangerous government shutdown ahead of a critical funding deadline.

“These conversations are invaluable opportunities for me to hear directly from the Virginians I serve in communities across Virginia’s Seventh District about their ideas for our future, the challenges their families are facing, and how I can work at the federal level to deliver real results for them. One issue I continuously hear about during our town halls is how two provisions of the Social Security Act are penalizing tens of thousands of Virginians and slashing their earned retirement benefits — and I look forward to updating residents of the Seventh District about my work to repeal them,” said Spanberger. “I hope many Virginians will join Wednesday’s conversation to let me know what issues are top of mind so I can best work to advocate on their behalf on Capitol Hill.”

WHO: U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger

WHEN: 7:30pm-8:30pm ET, Wednesday, September 18, 2024

DETAILS: To join the interactive telephone town hall, Virginians should dial in to 833-380-0670. To watch the discussion live, Virginians can go to spanberger.house.gov/live or Spanberger’s Facebook page during the event.
