Spanberger Statement on U.S. Senate Passing Landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation
HENRICO, V.A. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement after a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate voted to pass a landmark, job-creating infrastructure package.
“As the Senate clears this legislation, the House now has an opportunity to make a historic investment in our economy, our public works, and our workforce. We should move as quickly as possible to send this legislation to President Biden’s desk.
“The bipartisan nature of the negotiations behind this bill, as well as the bipartisan momentum we saw in its passage today, demonstrates a focus not on winning political games or settling scores, but instead on delivering long-awaited results for the American people. This bill responds to the concerns of Virginia families, businesses, and communities — and I hope my colleagues in the House will recognize how support for these physical infrastructure investments transcends ideological barriers.
“When I hear directly from Central Virginians, no matter if they are Democrats or Republicans, it’s clear that major investments in roads, bridges, broadband internet connectivity, water infrastructure, and our electrical grid remain a top priority — along with the jobs and economic growth these investments would create. Here in Virginia, we have made tremendous progress in making our Commonwealth the best place in the country to start a business, work, and raise a family — but we can do more to shore up our economy for the long run. This infrastructure package would ensure that Virginia continues to lead the way.
“By moving this bill forward, we can keep the United States competitive in the face of rising international competition from nations like China. We can make our infrastructure more resilient to the climate crisis. We can give hardworking Americans the job security they deserve. And we can keep our promise to the next generation of Americans — a promise that they will grow up in a stronger, more prosperous, more connected, and more powerful nation.”
