Spanberger Statement Ahead of Independence Day 2024
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.
“Each year on Independence Day, we remember the courage of those who risked their lives, fortunes, and the safety of their families to create our new nation. On July 4, 1776, our founders agreed upon establishing an independent republic that would derive its power from the people it serves. The principles of liberty, equality, and justice penned in our Declaration of Independence are rooted in our nation’s enduring vision for itself.
“On this 248th anniversary of the adoption of our nation’s founding document, we recognize the tireless work of generations of Americans to uphold our fundamental values of democracy and freedom. We are lucky to live in a country whose founding principles are worth fighting for and protecting, and we owe an immense debt of gratitude to the heroes who take up that fight.
“As we enter this Fourth of July weekend, I’m wishing all Virginians a wonderful holiday spent with friends and family. I encourage all our neighbors to take time to extend our gratitude to the servicemembers, Veterans, and military families who have made our celebrations possible.”
