A World War II veteran who recently received a Bronze Star for his actions in combat has been recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7th) spoke about Staff Sergeant Richard Francis Brani of Culpeper on Wednesday.

He received the Bronze Star for gallantry during the pivotal Battle of the Bulge that took place in December 1944/January 1945.

He was there on the beaches of Normandy and on the Western Front when Germany tried to stop Allied forces from using the port of Antwerp in Belgium.

Brani, now 100 years old, received the medal in December.
