CBS19: Spanberger on bill to prevent lawmaker insider trading

CBS19, SARAH ROBINSON

A recent study found that three in four Americans support banning lawmakers from trading stocks.

That is why Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7th) created the TRUST in Congress Act.

The bill would force representatives to put their stocks in a blind trust, which she says is a foolproof way to prevent insider trading.

She hopes this will help create more trust between the government and the American people.

“The massive problem is that the American public just thinks it’s occurring,” said Spanberger. “The American public just accepts that this is happening, that we are putting our own financial benefit above the people. And that for me is the core of the issue.”
