U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today was selected to serve as a member of two key subcommittees on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee—the Europe, Eurasia, Energy, and the Environment Subcommittee and the Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee.

The Europe, Eurasia, Energy, and the Environment Subcommittee is responsible for legislation related to U.S. foreign policy and engagement in Europe, and the Subcommittee also maintains oversight of legislation related to global energy trends, energy security, and environmental protection efforts. On the Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee, Spanberger will help oversee U.S. foreign policy and strategy in Asia, as well as examine legislation related to nuclear, chemical, and other weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, these subcommittees will monitor Russian aggression and Chinese expansionism.

“Throughout my career in public service, I’ve focused on protecting American families from a wide array of foreign threats and adversaries. Today, I’m honored to be selected to serve on these vital subcommittees, where I’ll advocate for strong and productive U.S. engagement in both Europe and Asia,” said Spanberger. “As we see an uptick in destabilizing trends across the globe, we must work together to reaffirm the importance of our country’s security relationships with our allies in these regions. These subcommittees will also help build coalitions to address some of the most pressing global challenges of our time, including mitigating the effects of climate change, reviewing the long-term sustainability of our energy supplies, and stopping nefarious actors from obtaining horrific weapons of mass destruction. As we examine innovative ways to expand our diplomatic, defense, and economic engagement abroad, I’m eager to help reinforce our shared values of international cooperation and democracy and to protect the lives of Americans at home and abroad.”
