Spanberger’s Office Reaches “Major Milestone” of $5 Million Returned to Seventh District Residents

The Congresswoman’s Office Has Now Closed More than 1,900 Constituent Cases for Central Virginians

HENRICO, V.A. U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today announced that her office has surpassed $5 million in casework funds returned to Central Virginia residents.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Spanberger’s office has maintained their work on typical casework concerns while also adapting to new needs like unemployment issues, locating lost stimulus checks, securing IRS refunds, and helping bring home constituents who have been stranded abroad.

Since taking office on January 3, 2019, Spanberger’s team has closed 1,938 cases for Central Virginians and returned more than $5,005,000.

“Behind every returned refund, secured benefit, or long overdue attention to a claim, there is a story of a Central Virginia individual, business, or family working to receive fair treatment from their government. The pandemic has presented new challenges for so many neighbors in our communities, and I’m honored to know that my team can lend a helping hand,” said Spanberger. “This major milestone is the result of our dedicated staff putting in the time and energy to be accessible to the people we serve. I look forward to remaining a go-to option for those facing these kinds of challenges — and if anyone here in Central Virginia is having trouble with a federal agency or has additional questions about how our office can help them, I strongly encourage them to reach out directly to our office.”

Casework dollars are secured and returned by fighting for backlogged benefits, as well as advocating for fair treatment on behalf of Seventh District constituents dealing with a federal agency or program. Last week, Spanberger announced the launch of virtual office hours for Spring 2021. These office hours are county-specific, and they are focused on each of the Seventh District’s 10 counties. During these sessions, Spanberger’s staff are available to assist with issues like veterans benefits, military benefits, the Social Security Administration, Medicare and Medicaid, or any other federal agency or benefit. Seventh District residents can sign up on Spanberger’s website here or by calling (804) 401-4110.
