HENRICO, V.A. – U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger yesterday hosted a virtual telephone town hall focused on issues facing Central Virginians.
During the interactive town hall, Spanberger answered questions directly from Seventh District residents about rising prescription drug prices, COVID-19 testing, bipartisan gun violence prevention efforts, broadband internet infrastructure, and several additional topics. Additionally, she provided an update on her priorities in the upcoming COVID-19 relief package — including support for state and local governments and continued funding of COVID-19 telehealth programs, and she addressed the status of ongoing congressional negotiations.
More than 5,700 Central Virginians tuned in to Spanberger’s event via phone or online. Click here to watch a full video of the virtual town hall.
“My most important responsibility remains listening directly to those I serve. During last night’s telephone town hall, I heard the concerns of Central Virginians who are living through a moment of uncertainty, as our communities confront a global pandemic, an economic crisis, and high levels of unemployment,” said Spanberger. “Last night’s event also demonstrated the importance of delivering results for families and businesses during these uncertain times, and that’s why I continue to be deeply frustrated by the lack of progress in getting the next COVID-19 relief package across the finish line. My office continues to receive hundreds of phone calls and requests for assistance related to unemployment, housing, and healthcare concerns — so I know this pandemic is personal for Central Virginia families, businesses, and local leaders. I look forward to additional conversations throughout our communities, and I thank everyone who joined yesterday’s event.”
Tuesday’s telephone town hall was Spanberger’s eighth interactive town hall since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Last month, she hosted a telephone town hall alongside Virginia Health Commissioner Dr. M. Norman Oliver to discuss the challenges facing Central Virginia patients, providers, and healthcare systems as the COVID-19 crisis continues. Click here to listen to a full recording of the event.
