Spanberger Announces More Than $2,000,000 Returned to VA-07 Constituents

Since January 2019, The Congresswoman & Her Staff Have Worked to Return Backlogged Payments & Benefits to Central Virginia Residents Dealing with Federal Agencies, including in Response to the COVID-19 Crisis

Henrico, May 22, 2020

HENRICO, V.A. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today announced that her office has returned more than $2,000,000 to the people of Central Virginia.

To date, Spanberger and her staff have closed more than 1,000 constituent cases and returned more than $2.1 million to Central Virginians. Spanberger’s office returned these dollars to taxpayers by cutting through federal red tape, expediting returns owed from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and securing backlogged benefits from federal agencies like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the U.S. Social Security Administration. And during the COVID-19 pandemic, her office has prioritized assisting constituents with issues related to the economic and health effects of the crisis—as well as helping Central Virginians return from abroad amid the pandemic.

“This crisis has underscored the importance of working one-on-one with those in our communities who need a helping hand. My top priority as the representative for Virginia’s Seventh District continues to be staying responsive to the needs of our neighbors as they weather this pandemic,” said Spanberger. “I’m grateful to my dedicated team for working tirelessly to serve those who need help with the IRS, the VA, and other federal agencies, and especially during this time marked by extreme uncertainty, I’m humbled to provide this additional resource to Central Virginians.
