HENRICO, V.A. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today delivered valentines to Central Virginia veterans as part of her “Valentines for Veterans” program.
During the past few weeks, community members and local schoolchildren created handwritten messages for local veterans and sent them to Spanberger’s district offices. In total, her offices received more than 1,900 valentines for the “Valentines for Veterans” effort.
On Valentine’s Day, Spanberger visited McGuire VA Medical Center and the Fredericksburg VA Clinic to deliver the messages and to thank area veterans and their families for their service.
“Today, I was honored to meet so many veterans who have given so much to our country—and I’ve been touched by the tremendous amount of community participation in the Valentines for Veterans effort,” said Spanberger. “Our district clearly has a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for our servicemembers and veterans, and that’s clear in every kind and inspiring word of these thoughtful notes. I’d like to thank the hundreds of students and teachers at schools across our district who participated in this project, as well as the many families who used this initiative as an opportunity to teach their children about those who’ve fought to keep us safe. By recognizing and thanking our local veterans, we are reminding them that their selfless service does not go unnoticed.”
Spanberger launched “Valentines for Veterans” last month.
