HENRICO, V.A. – U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement ahead of Thanksgiving Day.
“Across Central Virginia, the traditions of Thanksgiving bring us closer together with those we love. We gather with family and close friends, we share memories and laughter, and we give thanks for the profound blessing of living in the United States. Additionally, we aim to provide hope to those who might be without shelter, food, employment, or companionship—and amid increasingly uncertain times, we endeavor to extend this much-needed spirit of generosity toward greater numbers of our neighbors.
“As the holiday season begins, I also hope we will take time to remember the thousands of Virginia servicemembers spending this Thanksgiving far away from their families and communities. Last month, I had the opportunity to meet many of our nation’s forces stationed in Afghanistan, Turkey, and Jordan. I thanked them for their continued courage in the face of life-threatening dangers—and I marveled at their tireless commitment to their mission and their country. Whether serving at home or abroad, the individual sacrifices of these men and women are truly a selfless gift to their fellow Americans.
“This Thanksgiving, I am deeply thankful for the privilege of representing Virginia’s Seventh District in the U.S. House, and I am immensely grateful to our district’s servicemembers, veterans, and their families. I am inspired by their dedication to a common purpose, their unbreakable resolve, and their sense of civic duty. We are fortunate to have such strong, unwavering principles—and we are just as fortunate to have such brave men and women willing to defend them.”
