Spanberger Hosts First District Town Hall in Goochland County, Encourages Central Virginians to Make their Voices Heard

The Congresswoman is Hosting Events in Spotsylvania & Nottoway in the Coming Weeks, Finalizing Details on Town Halls in All 10 Counties of Virginia’s Seventh District

Washington, February 20, 2019

GOOCHLAND, VA — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger was in Goochland County yesterday to host her first county-specific town hall event, where she heard directly from Central Virginians.

During a town hall held at the Goochland Recreation Center, Spanberger heard constituent concerns and answered their questions about border security, environmental policy, immigration, and many other issues important to Central Virginia. Spanberger also gave an update on legislation she has helped introduced—including legislation to tackle the rising costs of prescription drugs—and highlighted her new responsibilities on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.

“My primary job as a U.S. Representative is to respond to the needs of Central Virginians and amplify their voices in the halls of Congress. As I begin hosting town halls across our district, I’m hearing many ideas about how I can fight for the priorities of our area’s working families, businesses, schools, and greater communities,” said Spanberger. “Our town hall meeting in Goochland was a terrific opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation about recent events in Washington. By maintaining open communication between public servants and the those whom we represent, we are building trust, getting real feedback on government policies, and establishing a precedent of increased transparency. As I announce additional events, I hope more Central Virginians will join this conversation as we seek to expand opportunities for all Central Virginians and keep our communities safe, healthy, and strong.”

Spanberger’s office is in the process of planning town halls in all 10 counties of Virginia’s Seventh District and will announce additional events as details are finalized. These town halls will occur in addition to Spanberger’s other public events, such as the recent “Coffee with Your Congressperson” event she hosted in Amelia County and issue-specific roundtable discussions.

Spanberger represents Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, which contains all or portions of Amelia, Chesterfield, Culpeper, Goochland, Henrico, Louisa, Nottoway, Orange, Powhatan, and Spotsylvania counties in Central Virginia. She was raised and currently resides in Henrico County.
