INTERNSHIP – DC Office

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger seeks a driven, detail-oriented, hardworking, and engaged individual to join her DC staff for a spring semester internship from February 26 to April 26. Elected in 2018, Spanberger is the first woman to represent Virginia’s 7th District and the first Democrat in 50 years. Her dynamic team is working to improve the lives of 7th District constituents and communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Constituent services: assist the front office staff with answering constituent phone calls, sort and batch mail, draft correspondence, and address concerns of constituents;
  • Legislative research: work with the legislative team to conduct research on issue areas, learn about the legislative process;
  • Social media: collaborate with the Communications department to track, organize, and manage social media accounts;
  • Tours: train to give staff-led tours throughout the Capitol; and
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Responsible, reliable, punctual
  • Has knowledge of the district, its constituents, and its needs
  • Able to problem solve, think quickly, adapt, and handle sensitive information

LOGISTICS: HOURS & COMPENSATION: This internship is 10 hours per week at $14/hour. Specific days and hours are contingent on the individual.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Community outreach: assist the district staff with constituent outreach, develop relationships with community groups, organizations, and individuals;
  • Constituent casework: answer constituent requests for assistance with federal agencies, requests, and assistance with other government agencies;
  • Event planning: spearhead events throughout the district for Congresswoman Spanberger and constituents and staff events;
  • Office administration: answer phones, track inventory, organize supplies, help with administrative tasks;
  • Research: conduct policy research, develop memos, and create legislative products for DC legislative team; and
  • Other duties as assigned
